Laser Dentistry is when a laser is utilised when performing dental procedures. Lasers can be categorised into two kinds based on its target tissue – hard tissue vs. soft tissue laser. The wavelength and set up in each laser defines its characteristics and effectiveness in action. A soft tissue laser can perform treatment such as lip tie release, tongue tie release, gum recontour, and so on. A hard tissue laser in dentistry can treat enamel and dentin – in other words, do fillings!
Most often, that answer is fear or needle. Fear of pain during treatment is why many people avoid making regular appointments at the dentist. Needles, numbness, and the loud noise from the drill – all of these things can be scary even for adults. Now, remember what it was like being a little one in the dental chair.
At Kiddo Smile Pediatric Dentistry, we want to change all of that.
We are one of a few pediatric dental clinics in B.C. with the Solea Laser. As a dedicated Pediatric dental clinic, we think this technology should be accessible beyond just adult dentistry. When your child is young, their first experiences at the dentist will make a big impression from the very beginning. We are dedicated to making every experience the very best. We have invested in the technology that ensures anxiety-free appointments for a lifetime of enjoyable dental treatment.
Solea is a revolutionary CO2 laser, the first of its kind designed for both hard and soft tissue procedures in the dental profession. Solea laser is the first CO2 dental laser approved by the FDA for both gums and teeth.
Using a specific wavelength of light and custom computer programming, Solea delivers an exceptionally stress-free dental experience. No need for local anaesthesia and needles, zero vibration and no alarming drilling noise. Although when needed, sometimes we still combine the use of Solea and traditional dentistry with one goal to help facilitate the treatment as smooth for your child as we can.
Sounds too good to be true? Solea has made this possible. The technology is real, and it’s here at Kiddo Smile Pediatric Clinic.
While not all kinds of dental needs can be treated by the Solea laser, we are happy to offer consultation and review your child’s treatment options!
Removing the need for local anaesthesia and regional numbness, we have more chances of efficiently providing fillings in multiple areas of the mouth within the same visit, possibly reducing follow-up appointments, and saving you valuable time.
This may sound too good to be true since we are accustomed to some discomfort at the dentist either during or post-procedure. But for the vast majority, there is only a mild sensation of cold during treatment. We introduce children to Solea in child-friendly terms and help prepare expectations for the best outcome.
The Solea laser can be used on hard and soft tissue such as tooth enamel, dentin, gum tissue and even bone. Solea is FDA-approved for cavity treatment, frenectomies, ulcers, crown lengthening, gingivectomies, and fibroma removals.
Absolutely! We wouldn’t have invested in the Solea Laser if it wasn’t the ideal technology to use with your little ones. It will reduce the amount of time in the chair for procedures, foster a positive dental experience, and virtually eliminate anxiety for needles, and reduce the need for noisy drills—all with reduced healing time and stress for both parent and child.
We routinely use Solea to provide dental fillings. While it is an excellent tool, Solea is not a one solution for all. There are still some dental needs that may be better performed with traditional dentistry, such as nerve treatment and extraction. Each child is also unique and may cope with one method better than the other. We are happy to provide consultation and discuss if Solea will be an option for your child’s dental needs!
