Making a big difference in little smiles

As a pediatric dentist and a mother of two young children, I enjoy both my day and night job being around fascinating little ones. I love building relationships with compassion and offering guidance and help to establish long-lasting healthy smiles. It is a privilege for me to be part of young children’s life journeys as they become remarkable adults. My goal is to help children find comfort, courage, and confidence in caring for their oral health. I promise to care for your little one as I would for my own.

I obtained my bachelor of science degree in Economics with a business minor certificate from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2010 (Go Badger!). Having found my true passion in “people,” I took a turn in my career and followed my beloved grandmother’s footsteps in becoming a dentist. In preparation for dentistry, I received a Master’s degree from Columbia University in Human Nutrition in 2011 and researched the links between periodontal disease and obesity. My thesis was later published in the Journal of clinical endocrinology and metabolism.

Driven by my passion for disease prevention, I founded the student chapter of the American Association of Public Health Dentistry at the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry. I obtained my Doctor of Dental Surgeon degree with high distinction in 2015. I was honoured with multiple scholarship nominations and was one of the 40 Paul Ambrose scholars selected to participate in the National Association for Prevention Teaching and Research in Washington, DC.

My pediatric specialty training took place in the beautiful sunshine state, Florida, with New York University Langone Health Center in Suncoast Community Health Center, Tampa General Hospital (a Level I trauma centre), and South Florida Baptist Hospital. I also served as the chief resident in my senior year. I am a board-certified pediatric dental specialist in both the US and Canada.

Much of my experiences volunteering helped shape me as a well-rounded healthcare provider in the community locally, nationally, and internationally. You can find me in Ronald McDonald House serving food, in summer camp being silly with kids, in kindergarten and elementary schools teaching children about their mouths, at the city hall lobbying on behalf of patients and the dental profession, and at dental mission trips near and far. The excitement from tasting cocoa in Guatemala and watching the stars from the southern hemisphere in Bolivia is still vivid in my mind. I am so lucky to find real joy and excitement in my profession!

I am currently active in our community in Vancouver as a member of BCDA, serving on the Early Childhood Caries Prevention Task Force and of AAPD, CAPD, ABPD, RCDC, CCDSBC, CDSPD, DSSBC, and the Greater Vancouver Study Club. I regularly participate in continuing education to stay on top of the latest advancement in dentistry. I also enjoy teaching and am a part-time clinical assistant professor at UBC pediatric dental department.

Born in the US and grew up in Taipei, Taiwan, I am fluent in Mandarin and English. I met my husband in New York City during my student life and moved to his beloved hometown, Vancouver, in 2017. I enjoy traveling, being an amateur photographer, playing music with my guitar, having silly dance parties with my girls, and singing karaoke. You will find me humming Disney songs around the clinic! I also play ultimate frisbee in the summer. My latest passion is blogging about baby teeth and documenting my baby girls’ dental journey to show that you are not alone as a parent!

Hi!

I am Dr. Anthony Lee

Nice to meet

you!

Making a big difference in little smiles

Dr. Anthony was raised in Vancouver where he was, as a teenager, first introduced to working with children at the Sunny Hill Health Centre. He continued his interest in the human condition and completed his undergraduate degree in Anthropology at McGill University before completing dental school in New York, where he was accepted into the pediatric dentistry honours program during his final year of studies.

He subsequently completed his combined Master of Science and specialty training in pediatric dentistry in Chicago. Four cities and many thought experiments later, fate decided it was time for him to move home and he has been happily serving his childhood community since!

On weekends, you may find Dr. Anthony perusing through the aisles of grocery stores, baking up a storm in the kitchen, or rummaging through flea markets and estate sales. He also enjoys conversations around linguistics, moral philosophy, and history. You may also find that he has an unhealthy obsession with architecture and fluffy animals (raccoons included)!
